All the children in Year R have been learning about objects that float and objects that sink. We have been exploring why some will float while others sink, thinking about the properties of the materials being tested.

The children enjoyed the experience of doing this which also resulted in us talking about plastic and the impact it is having on the oceans because it floats.

The children thought about ways to solve this… which linked in perfectly to next weeks focus!

Today Year R had a visit from a lady called Fiona and completed some singing workshops with the children.

The children sang a song about wishes and they had to think of what they would wish for if they had a wish – there were many different types of things they wished for (bouncy castles, a horse, a transformer!)

The next song was about Jack and the Beanstalk before finishing with a rock and roll style song about the enjoyment of stories. The children had a dance to the song whilst singing it.

It was a great experience for them.

On Thursday 23rd May, all Year R children went on a trip to the New Forest Wildlife Park.

It was their first school trip and in the morning they were very excited. They were even more excited when they saw we had double decker buses to get there!

On the last day of the half term, the staff in Year R came into school to watch this happen!

After our trip to the New Forest Wildlife park today, we came back to school to look at the new building and what had happened while we were away.

The new school building is really starting to take shape now and progress is moving so quickly!! The children get so excited when they see the crane lifting in the next pod.

Many of the children in class have started to become builders, designing and planning their own structures, and even dressing up as builders to do so.

Watch out! You may have some budding builders at home!

How far will they get after 3 days?

On Monday lunchtime, Year R were lucky enough to see the start of the new building taking shape.

A giant crane was on the field and lifting the pods into place. It was great to watch!

As we head into the final week of this half term, the children in Year R will be learning about aquatic animals. We will be looking at their environment and how their environment can be affected by humans.

We will also be going on our first school trip! The Year R children are going to the New Forest Wildlife Park on Thursday. Everything is ready. Now just hoping for some good weather. Photos from the trip will be posted on here so please watch this space.

Last week the children learnt about desert animals.

We looked at how animals have had to be adaptable to their environments in order to survive. We talked about the terms predator and prey, as well as survival.

Many children were able to use the term ‘camouflage’ to talk about how animals have adapted to their environments.

Ask your children about this.
